Welcoming Back Evench Gomes to the MA-IDP Classroom
We were delighted to welcome Evench Gomes back to our MA in International Development Practice (MA-IDP) Contemporary Issues class on March 30th, 2026. A former MA-IDP student, Evench has since built an impressive career and is currently working with GOAL, bringing her experience full circle to inspire current students.
Joining the session online was Enida Friel, Head of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) at GOAL. Together, they provided students with valuable insights into GOAL’s vital humanitarian work, alongside a strong emphasis on accountability and compliance.
Students particularly appreciated hearing Evench’s personal and professional journey, from her earlier work with communities in Bangladesh, to her time on the MA-IDP programme, and her current role with GOAL. Her reflections offered both inspiration and practical guidance for those considering similar career pathways.
We also celebrated Evench’s recent publication on Youth Engagement for Climate Action, featured in a Bristol University Press volume on Climate Justice. The chapter was developed from her MA-IDP final research project, conducted in collaboration with World Vision and supervised by Dr. Kathy Reilly, highlighting the lasting impact of student research beyond the programme.
It was wonderful to learn that GOAL is among the charities being supported this year by the Students’ Union, further strengthening the connection between our students and impactful global development work.
