Robing
ROBE HIRE
- All students to be conferred must wear the correct Academic Robes as directed by the National University of Ireland: Academic Dress of the National University of Ireland - National University of Ireland
- Students are free to search for academic gowns on their own behalf provided they comply with the Academic Dress Code as above.
- The official robemakers for University of Galway are Phelan Conan Ltd.
ROBE PRE BOOKING
- All graduates must pre-book robes with the official robe-makers, Phelan Conan Limited by Midnight Thursday 8th October 2026.
- Robes may be pre-booked online at www.phelanconan.com. The pre-paid hire fee is €45. Robe collection times and location are listed below.
Should you miss the deadline to pre book on line you can still hire your robe at the venue and collect at the time listed below. The hire fee for non-booked robes is €50 and this can be paid by scanning our QR code when collecting your robe. - Due to the implementation of a personal 3D secure password during the credit card payment process on https://www.phelanconan.com Phelan Conan Ltd staff are no longer able to take bookings over the phone. This has been created to protect your online payments and if you don’t already have a 3D secure password you can activate it by following the simple instructions during the booking process. If you experience any further problems with 3D secure process, please contact your bank. Cash will not be accepted.
- All gowns must be returned to Phelan Conan as soon as possible after the conclusion of the ceremony. If your gown is not returned on the day that you graduate, you may incur a penalty.
ROBE COLLECTION & RETURN
- Robes collection dates and times are listed below. Collection is from G010 – G011 , Hardiman Building , University of Galway.
- It is strongly advised to collect your robe the evening before your ceremony to avoid any delays on the day of your conferring.
- Robes must be returned to the Seminar Rooms GO10/GO11, The Hardiman Research Building (adjacent to James Hardiman Library). Robe collection and return are from the same location.
- All robes are to be returned as soon as possible after the conclusion of your ceremony to G010 / G011 Hardiman Building. If your gown is not returned on the day that you graduate, you may incur a penalty.
- Please do not leave robes outside the robing rooms.
