Professor John Laffey is director of the CRDO. He has significant experience in translational and clinical research in the areas of sepsis, acute respiratory failure, perioperative care and regenerative medicine.

Senior Manager Clinical Research and Development Office

Caroline, the Senior Manager for the Clinical Research and Development Office in Galway, brings over 25 years of experience in clinical research at both site and sponsor levels. She holds a nursing degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Sciences, a master’s in health sciences with a focus on Preventative Cardiology from the University of Galway, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Care Management from the University of Limerick. Caroline is responsible for implementing governance frameworks, managing clinical research contracts, and developing standardized policies and processes to ensure the highest standards of clinical research, adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines

Quality and Regulatory Affairs

Ruth Cooney is the Head of Clinical R&D Quality and Regulatory Affairs providing strategic leadership in developing the quality management system and oversight of clinical research across University of Galway and HSE West-NorthWest RHA.

Patrick Golden

Finance Manager

Patrick is responsible for the day to day financial Governance and Oversight reporting of the CRDO. This includes periodic reporting of CRDO Financial activity and putting fit for purpose financial systems in place for the CRDO.

Clinical Trial Auditor

Mary has worked for many years in various Quality Assurance (QA) roles primarily within the pharmaceutical industry. Mary initiated working within QA in clinical research in 2020 within the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) Galway and has worked in CRDO since 2021.

Marie Browne

Sponsor Oversight

Marie is the Sponsor Officer and is responsible for leadership in development, implementation and maintenance  systems to assure University of Galway sponsored clinical research undertaken is in accordance with the requirements including the International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH-GCP), Clinical Trials regulation, Medical Device Regulation, ISO 14155 and all other relevant regulations and standards.
