Our Aim

Based on an older people-centred approach, the ADILL-project, carried out in collaboration between AGE-Platform Europe and University of Galway, examines how older adults in Ireland and Austria experience age discrimination in accessing financial, health and transport services. The broader objective is to analyse the impact of the existence and non-existence of specific equality laws and policies by examining how different legal and policy contexts manifest themselves in older adults’ experiences of discrimination. Consequently, the study aims to explore the need for a further development and improvement of current legal and policy situation. The research will offer a fresh perspective on the issue of ageism and age discrimination, both in terms of its focus on the impact of law and policy and its methodology based on the realities faced by older persons.

Project Background

The present study is part of the “EuroAgeism” project, which is a multi-disciplinary, multi-sectorial, science-policy international network of researchers, policy makers and social and health care professionals, which aims to address a wide range of barriers, disadvantages and discriminations experienced by older persons. The EuroAgeism project has received sponsorship from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie EU Framework for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 and is coordinated by an international consortium and the Research Executive Agency of the European Commission.
