Election of Professor Aoife Nolan to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child

The Irish Centre for Human Rights extends its warm congratulations to Professor Aoife Nolan, on her election to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the United Nations treaty body of 18 independent experts responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Professor Nolan is an internationally renowned expert in international human rights law, and brings a wealth of human rights law expertise to this role, particularly in the fields of children's rights and economic and social rights.
Her election could not be more timely, given the current crisis in multilateralism, and the many threats to our fragile human rights protection system.
Currently the President of the Council of Europe's European Committee of Social Rights, Professor Nolan will bring her expertise on the implementation of core human rights norms, including on climate justice, socio-economic inequalities, and digital rights, to this critically important work at the United Nations.
Professor Nolan co-leads Doughty Street Chambers' Children's Rights Group and is a member of the Doughty Street International Steering Group. She is Professor of International Human Rights Law at the School of the Law, University of Nottingham, where she is also Director of the Human Rights Law Centre's Economic and Social Rights Unit.
We wish Professor Nolan all the very best in her important work.
