Let’s Talk Research: Gatekeeping Protection: The Reality of U.S. Refugee Policy Today
Join us for 'Gatekeeping Protection: The Reality of U.S. Refugee Policy Today' with Andrea Morley as part of our Let’s Talk Research Seminar Series.
Abstract: This presentation will provide a brief history of U.S. refugee law, overview of refugee-related policies since Jan 2025, and current impact of such policies on refugees in America.
Speaker Bio: After serving for 2 years in Crimea, Ukraine with the U.S. Peace Corps, Andrea worked for the Refugee Affairs Division of Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) for 11 years. She lived and worked in East Africa, Central and South America, and much of the Middle East (including a year in Iraq) adjudicating refugee cases as a team leader and trainer. She holds a BA in Political Science (University of Florida) and MA in International Development and Human Rights (JKSIS at University of Denver). Her research will focus on the impact of US immigration policy shifts on other countries with refugee admissions programs.
