Specialist Certificates in Health Promotion
Programmes Summary
The Discipline of Health Promotion at the National University of Ireland Galway, offers a number of Specialist Certificates in Health Promotion programmes. These part-time online blended Specialist Certificate programmes take place over one year. All of our programmes are coordinated, assessed and accredited by the National University of Ireland Galway. They are developed and taught in conjunction with a variety of partner organisations (for example, Dental Health Foundation Ireland, Health Services Executive, The National Youth Council of Ireland , Jigsaw )
The primary focus of these programmes is to provide students with a professional education and training in the principles and practice of Health Promotion.
Specialist Certificate in Health Promotion
- ORAL HEALTH
Applications are currently CLOSED for this course - Unfortunately, this course will not be running next academic year.
The primary focus of the Undergraduate Specialist Certificate programmes is to provide students with a professional education and training in the principles and practice of Health Promotion, as applied to the promotion of Oral Health. The course is particularly aimed at practitioners, who work in the oral health field (e.g., dentists, dental nurses, dental hygienists) and others in a position to promote oral health (e.g., public heath nurses, general practitioners, dietitians, nurses, special needs assistants).

Specialist Certificate in Health Promotion
- YOUTH HEALTH
This Specialist Certificate in Youth Health Promotion is a Level 7 course run in conjunction with the National Youth Council or Ireland and applications are made in the first instance through the National Youth Council of Ireland.
Initial application and pre-screening is conducted by the National Youth Council of Ireland - please contact Rachael@nyci.ie for further information.
Specialist Certificate in Health Promotion
- YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH
This Specialist Certificate in Youth Mental Health Promotion is a Level 7 course, jointly developed by Jigsaw, the National Youth Council of Ireland and University of Galway. The course is for professionals working with young people in a range of sectors, who wish to develop greater knowledge, skills and competencies to promote youth mental health in their own work settings.
To apply, please complete the application form. Closing date for applications is May 31st 2023 - more information is available from Lil Fahy, Youth Mental Health Promotion Manager at lil.fahy@jigsaw.ie.
