Accommodation
Student accommodation is of good quality and value (cheaper than Galway), with many students using the same accommodation year on year.
Most students pass their rental accommodation on to each other and most is nearly or in town, which is less than 10 minutes walk from the hospital.

Dining
There is a subsidised canteen on Level 2 of the Sligo Medical Academy; a coffee shop and shop on Level 3. The cost for breakfast is €1 and for €2 for dinner.
There is a kitchen / social area for students on Level 8.
Lyons Café and Bakeshop on Quay St, in the centre of Sligo town, is on the first floor of the 1878 established Henry Lyons department store. Lyons Cafe, is considered one of Sligo’s food institutions, in a thriving culinary Sligo food scene that delivers to its many regulars daily, an ever-changing menu of innovative and contemporary dishes influenced by travels across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Hooked Restaurant purchase local and purchase Irish where possible.They believe in using Artisan & Irish producers with the aim of supporting the local and Irish economy. They believe in using all the finest, freshest produce County Sligo has to offer in our Restaurant in Sligo. They provide an all – day dining experience of an informal and easy nature. Sports & Leisure:
The first of its kind, Ireland's new surf center in Strandhill provides a unique visitor experience and see the County Sligo town emerge as a world-class surfing destination. Overlooking the waterfront in Strandhill, Co. Sligo, The National Surf Centre is a purpose-built architectural building, featuring stunning artwork on the front exterior by Donegal artist and surfer, Barry Britton. The centre provides high quality fully serviced changing, shower and locker facilities with extensive ground floor space to be used for surf class training and demonstrations. It also includes a bespoke surf and leisure retail experience along with a large-scale flexible meeting room which is available for hire.
The Clayton Hotel offers a newly refurbished gym with brand new Precor equipment and a range of challenging and enjoyable fitness classes. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and expert staff, Club Vitae Gym is committed to improving the quality of life of all members and guests. Additionally, the Sligo leisure centre features a 20-metre swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and a steam room as well as our home of wellness, the Essence Spa. Please see here for further details.
Sligo is a great place for outdoor pursuits, with active clubs such as athletics, soccer, Gaelic, hockey, rugby, surf & boat club. University students can access ATU Sligo sports facilities (just across the road) and running track at student rates.

Muslim Prayers:
Sligo University Hospital Mosque is located between Flat 2 & Flat 3 (beside the building where you get your Sligo Regional Hospital ID badge – Flat 2).
There is also congregational 5 times daily prayers & JUMU'AT service on Fridays in the Globe House Muslim Community, Chapel Hill, Sligo (located behind the Garda (police) station.

Research Opportunities:
There are a range of Special Study Modules and Research Summer Studentships available at the academy. Please contact our Academy Administrator for details.
The Air, Land and Sea: Search and Rescue Special Study Module is available at Sligo Medical Academy Campus. It is aimed at students who are interested in pre-hospital care and the great outdoors. The module offers the opportunity for hands-on joint training exercises with the Irish Coast Guard’s aeromedical unit in Strandhill, including aircraft safety briefings and a familiarisation flight; motor vehicle collision extrication maneuvers with the Sligo County Fire Service; simulated rescue training with the Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team; and shore teaching and maritime exercises with an all weather lifeboat at the Achill RNLI station. The course director is Dr Scott Walkin.
There is a very active programme with the Research and Education Foundation which is a registered charity and limited company set up to support training, education and research in health care in Sligo Regional Hospital and its catchment area in the HSE North West Area.
Many students have completed summer projects and were successful in getting HRB, Wellcome and local funding.
