IRC-funded PhD Scholar

Declan MorrisseyDeclan graduated from NUI Galway with a BSc in Marine Science. He also holds an MSc in Marine Biology from the University of Algarve. He conducted his MSc research on the population genomics of the common whelk in the Southern North Sea at the University of Essex.  Having previously participated in multiple cruises investigating Ireland’s deep-sea fauna, Declan decided to pursue a PhD combining a passion for genetics with an appreciation of the complex deep-sea octocorals. Declan's research will investigate the evolution, population connectivity, and associations of octocorals in the North Atlantic.
