Susan McKenney

Susan McKenney’s research focuses on understanding and supporting the interplay between (technology-rich) classroom innovation and teacher professional development.

She is professor of teacher professionalization, school development and educational technology at the University of Twente. She chairs the Department of Learning, Data-analytics and Technology as well as ELAN, the department’s sub-group responsible for Twente’s teacher education program.

She was recently appointed as Extraordinary Professor of Educational Technology at North-West University, South Africa, is fellow of the ISLS and of ISDDE, and currently serves on the editorial boards of Instructional Science, Educational Design Research, Journal of the Learning Sciences, and Educational Technology Research & Development and the Journal of Computer Assisted Learning. 

She has collaborated in over 50 externally funded research and/or development projects for various organizations, including Netherlands National Institute for Curriculum Development (SLO); the Netherlands Science Foundation (NWO); the (American) National Science Foundation (NSF); the European Union (EU); and the World Bank. To date, her scientific output is visible through more than 100 peer reviewed publications as well as her books, Educational Design Research and Conducting Educational Design Research.
