Fáilte chuig Roinn na Gaeilge, Ollscoil na Gaillimhe

Cuireann Roinn na Gaeilge cláir fhochéime agus iarchéime ar fáil, ina dtugtar deis do mhic léinn cur lena n-eolas ar theanga, ar litríocht, ar chultúr, agus ar phobal na Gaeilge.

Gheofar eolas ginearálta ar an suíomh seo maidir le Roinn na Gaeilge, sonraí teagmhála na foirne teagaisc, agus sonraí na gclár fochéime agus iarchéime atá ar fáil sa Roinn. Cuirtear leabhráin eolais, amchláir na léachtaí, agus acmhainní eile ar fáil freisin do mhic léinn reatha sa Roinn.

Tá Ollscoil na Gaillimhe suite ar bhruach na Gaeltachta agus mar sin beidh buntáiste ar leith ag an mac léinn a dhéanfaidh staidéar ar an nGaeilge anseo. Tá pobal bríomhar cainteoirí Gaeilge san Ollscoil, agus tá tuairim agus 10% de mhic léinn na hOllscoile ag déanamh staidéir ar an nGaeilge, nó ag freastal ar chúrsa a mhúintear trí mheán na Gaeilge ar champais éagsúla de chuid na hOllscoile. Labhraítear an Ghaeilge go gnáthúil in Áras na Gaeilge, foirgneamh ar leith ina bhfuil foireann Roinn na Gaeilge agus foireann Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge lonnaithe agus ina ndéantar an chuid is mó den teagasc.

Welcome to the Discipline of Irish at the University of Galway

We offer various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes enabling and supporting students in developing their knowledge of the Irish language, its culture, literature, and community.

Find out more about our programmes under Cúrsaí Fochéime (BA Joint Honours, Denominated BA, etc.), Cúrsaí Iarchéime (MA, MLitt., PhD) and our degree programme in Celtic Civilisation (BA Joint Honours and Denominated Programmes).

As part of the BA (Joint Honours) programme, Irish can be studied to degree level alongside subjects, such as History, English, French, Geography, Modern Irish Culture, Celtic Civilisation, Léann an Aistriúcháin, and Law. Students from other Denominated programmes may also study modules offered by Roinn na Gaeilge, such as those undertaking the Bachelor of Arts (Music), Bachelor of Arts (Global Languages), Bachelor of Commerce (Gaeilge) and Arts (Children's Studies). You will find a complete list of undergraduate degrees in the College of Arts, Social Sciences, & Celtic Studies here.

As the University of Galway is situated on the threshold of the Gaeltacht, the student who studies Irish here has a particular advantage and additional opportunities to engage with an Irish-speaking community. Irish is also the everyday language in Áras na Gaeilge, a dedicated building in the centre of campus where the staff of the Discipline of Irish and those of Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge are located, and where most of the teaching for the discipline takes place.
