Course Content:

Influencing without authority is an essential capability for staff working across the University, where collaboration, partnership and shared decision-making are central to achieving successful outcomes.  
Whether contributing to committees, supporting University initiatives or collaborating across schools, colleges and units, influence is often achieved through credibility, relationships and effective communication rather than positional authority.

This practical one-day programme develops the confidence and skills required to influence others positively, build commitment and encourage collaboration. Through practical models, facilitated discussion, interactive exercises and University-based scenarios, participants will explore how to communicate with greater impact, build trust, adapt their influencing style and gain support for ideas and initiatives.
Throughout the programme, participants will strengthen their ability to build productive relationships, navigate differing perspectives and influence with confidence while maintaining positive and respectful working relationships. 

Practical application is emphasised throughout, ensuring participants leave with practical techniques and increased confidence to encourage collaboration and apply their learning immediately within their role. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

By the end of this programme, participants will be able to: 

• Develop greater confidence when influencing colleagues without authority.
• Build credibility and trust across the University.
• Communicate ideas in a clear, persuasive and engaging manner. 
• Adapt influencing approaches to suit different people and situations.
• Respond constructively to resistance while maintaining positive working relationships. 
• Apply practical influencing techniques to encourage collaboration and support shared objective
