Candidates, travelling from outside Galway city and county, may claim expenses up to the following limits:   

Posts Advertised Nationally (candidates travelling from within Ireland) 

Actual cost of public transport/petrol costs, plus one night bed and breakfast allowance, up to a maximum of €150.00  

Posts Advertised Internationally (candidates travelling from outside Ireland 

Cost of return flight for the candidate plus one night (or two nights if essentially required) bed and breakfast accommodation, up to a maximum of €600. For long distance travel from outside of Ireland or UK, upper limit may be higher, to a maximum of €1,200 at the discretion of the Director for Human Resources. 

  • Candidates for certain senior positions may claim actual costs in excess of the above maxima if funded from an external source which specifically permits actual cost reimbursement. If actual cost reimbursement is to be made the job applicant must obtain written confirmation from the Director of Human Resources in advance of the costs being incurred. 
  • Please note that posts advertised internationally are those advertised in international publications/journals.  All posts advertised nationally and internationally are placed on the HR website. 
  • All expense claims must be received by the Human Resources Office within 3 months following date of interview.  Claims received after this date will not be paid. Please note it can take up to 8 weeks to process the expense claim.  
  • Should you need to fly on a first class basis, a written request must be sent and approved by the President or Deputy President & Registrar in advance as per Section 8 of the University’s Travel & Subsistence Policy Travel & Subsistence - Smart Expenses - University of Galway
