Research Salary Scales

Salary scales from 1st March 2025 applicable for all new posts*

Per the Remuneration & Payroll Policy: Salary scales are approved by the Minister along with any deviations with the exception of researcher scales which are as per IUA guideline salary scales. The default position for all new appointments is the 1st point of the relevant salary scale. One incremental credit is applicable for each full year of relevant research post qualification (full-time) experience.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

Incremental progression will be in line with government policy.

It should be noted that moving from one post to another at the same grade is deemed a lateral move and no incremental progression will be applicable. The employee will retain their original incremental progression date.

Employees must be a minimum of 10 months on a point before an increment can be applied.

Researcher promotion shall be to the lowest point on the scale to which an employee is promoted that is above the employee’s salary prior to promotion.

Departure from Standard/Approved levels of Remuneration can only be made where the University is satisfied that it is necessary to meet the objectives of its operations and is in accordance with section 25, subsection 5 of the Universities Act 1997.

* Note: for renewals, PI may choose to align with the appropriate point on the scale, budget permitting
