Use Your Mug

From September 2024, single-use cups will no longer be available from campus catering outlets. Meanwhile, survey completed by Galway City Council revealed that four out of five people have a reusable cup but only one out of five use them regularly. We are encouraging the campus community to:

• Use your mug - bring your reusable hot beverage cup to campus. Cup washers have been installed throughout campus to help you keep your cup clean. All incoming first years have received a free reusable cup. Travel mugs can also be purchased at the SU Shop.
• Order your beverage in a ceramic mug, available in most campus catering outlets.
• Use a 2GoCup - further information below.

The 2GoCup scheme has been rolled out across all catering units on campus, as part of our ongoing effort to reduce waste.

2GoCup is a deposit and return scheme aiming to prevent the production, consumption and landfill created by single-use cups.

How the 2GoCup scheme works

1. Order and pay for your coffee

2. Pay a €1 deposit for a 2GoCup

3. Drop the 2GoCup* back to any participating location and receive your €1 back (or swap for a clean cup and just pay for your coffee)

It’s simple!

*Customers can keep the lid with them if they prefer, or drop it back with the cup for washing.
