Pre-Masters Pathway

Course Description

The Pre-Masters English Language Pathway is a higher diploma course designed to develop students’ English language skills to a level commensurate with studying at third level. On successful completion of the course, students will progress to some of the most innovative and competitive postgraduate degree courses in Business, Law, Public Policy, Science, Engineering, Medicine and Arts. 

Course Overview

  • Higher Diploma Certification (Level 8) on successful completion of all modules.
  • Develop proficiency in the core linguistic areas (reading, writing, speaking, listening)
  • Academic skills development (research methodologies, academic writing, critical thinking, presentation skills).
  • Build discipline-related knowledge through academic text analysis and reading.
  • Students will undertake a minor discipline-specific dissertation.
  • One-one-feedback sessions and coaching to assist students with a successful transition to your chosen programme.
  • Orientation to Irish culture and student life at University of Galway. 

Progression Requirements

Successful completion of all course modules with a minimum average exit grade of 70% with no module score lower than 65%

90% attendance 

Entry Requirements

IELTS 5.5 with no component less than 4.5 (or equivalent exam)

Accommodation
Course participants have the option of staying at our recently built on-campus residences Goldcrest Village and Dunlin Village for the duration of their programme which can be booked directly with the English Language Centre.
