Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

Whether you are taking a gap year, exploring a future career in education, or looking for a rewarding way to combine travel, culture, and language learning, a TEFL qualification is an excellent place to start.
The University of Galway English Language Centre is delighted to offer a new part-time TEFL course that can be completed alongside a full-time degree programme or professional commitments.
Delivered over one semester, this practical course will equip you with the skills and confidence to teach English effectively. You will learn how to plan engaging lessons, manage a classroom, and support language learners, while gaining valuable hands-on teaching practice throughout the programme. Upon successful completion, you will receive an industry-recognised TEFL qualification that will prepare you for teaching opportunities both in Ireland and internationally.

Dates: January to May 2027
Mode of Delivery: Part-time (evenings and weekends), in-person
Location: English Language Centre, University of Galway
Fee: €1,750 (payment plan available)
Who Can Apply?
Year 2 or Year 3 undergraduate or postgraduate students
External applicants
Applicants with proficient level of English (minimum C1 level)
No degree qualification or previous teaching experience required
