Web Services
Web Site Hosting
Web site hosting is the hosting of Web content on NUI Galway’s central Web servers (www.nuigalway.ie). The service is a highly available clustered solution using the latest technology. The service supports/hosts:
- Officially branded NUI Galway Web sites
- Web pages (HTML and PHP)
- Content Management System
- Domain hosting
- Free NUI Galway Web addresses e.g. http://www.nuigalway.ie/mysite/ or http://mysite.nuigalway.ie/
- IE Web addresses e.g. http://www.ncbes.ie/
- Other domain names (e.g. mysite.com, mysite.net) can be supported but must be purchased separately from a third party, e.g. http://www.register.ie/.
Who can use the service?
The main focus is to provide the basis for a Web presence for NUI Galway organisation units, but the hosting of other, NUI Galway-related Web sites, can also be requested by NUI Galway staff.
Availability
- Hosted Web sites are available 24x7
- For support queries, contact the Service Desk (Tel. x5777 eMail servicedesk
nuigalway.ie) from 09:15 to 17:00 (Monday – Friday)
Prerequisites required for the service
- The Web site must be authorised by the Head of Unit.
- The Head of Unit must also assign at least one, but preferably two, Web Administrators to maintain the website - ISS will not be in a position to edit any website content on their behalf.
- All involved should also consider whether there is a need for a new website - perhaps the the desired content should be added to an existing website instead.
