Micro-credential Overview

The aim of the Automation 2 module is to give you some important insights into the application of automation in industry as detailed in the module aims of Automation 1. 

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

  • Identify material transport systems, which are a major part of the automation system implemented in many production environments.
  • Demonstrate solving complex automated forms of storage systems, and explain the use made of automated storage and retrieval systems, and carousel-type storage systems.
  • Investigate the components of a flexible manufacturing system, its applications and benefits, and issues of planning and implementation.
  • Identify inspection technologies, contact and non-contact techniques, plus the differences between measuring and gauging and describe how computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing systems operate in combination, in product design.

Mode of Study and Assessment

The mode of study for this Micro-credential is Online Learning.

Assessment will be carried out on a continuous basis.

Application Process

From the 1st October 2024 you can apply for any Semester 2 Micro-credential through our Online Application Portal

When completing your application please make sure to select the following categories:

Academic level: Micro-credentials and CPD
College/Interest type: Micro-credentials/CPD Undergrad Level 7 and 8.
Academic programme: Science and Technology Micro-credentials - CPB1.

You will need to manually enter the Module Name and Code under ‘Module Name’ on the second page of your application. Please copy the name and code below:

Course Fees

€500

Subsided fee: €100

*Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria may qualify for a 80% fee subsidy, subject to the availability of subsidised places.

Entry Requirements 

Automation 1 must be completed before applying for Automation 2.  Applicants should have a Diploma at NFQ Level 7 of 90 ECTS minimum, in a Science, Engineering or Technical area.  Applicants must be over 21 years of age.  Applications can be considered using Recognition of Prior Learning
